Bellflower Wood Flooring is a hardwood flooring company working in Bellflower, CA, with more than 20 years spent sanding, repairing and installing wood floors. Most of what we do happens in houses like the ones on your street: the 1950s were Bellflower’s biggest building decade, and the majority of owner-occupied homes here went up between 1939 and 1959. Those houses came with oak, and a surprising number still have it.
That shapes how we work. A lot of our jobs start with someone pulling up a corner of old carpet or linoleum and wondering whether what is underneath can be saved. Often it can, and we would rather refinish a good original floor than sell a replacement nobody needs. When a floor really is past saving, we say so and explain why.
We also know the less glamorous side of older houses: the square hole in the hallway where a floor furnace used to be, the soft spot by the water heater, the slab leak the plumber just fixed, and the rental that needs to be ready before the next tenant moves in.
Our Approach

We measure before we quote. Moisture is read in the wood and in any concrete slab before material is ordered, and the numbers go on the estimate. Soft spots, bounce and sagging are traced to the subfloor and framing, mobile-home decking included, before we price a new floor on top. When water is involved, we find where it came from and keep dated photos and readings that an insurance adjuster can work from.
We look at original oak one board at a time before anyone talks about tearing it out. Old floor furnace openings and vents get real framing and boards woven into the existing rows, not a plywood cover and a rug. After a slab leak, we wait for the plumber to repair or reroute the line, then put the floor back the way it belongs.
Safety and paperwork are part of the job too, which is why houses built before 1978 get lead-safe work practices. Old tile and black mastic are treated as a possible asbestos question before anything is sanded or scraped. The finishes we apply are chosen from products legal in the South Coast air basin under the 275 g/L limit for wood coatings. Landlords get written estimates and invoices they can keep on file, and staircases are priced tread by tread and riser by riser so nothing is hidden in a square-foot total.
What We Do
We refinish worn and dated wood floors, repair damaged boards and subfloors, restore floors hurt by leaks and slab leaks, and install new solid, engineered and wide plank hardwood, including herringbone layouts. We build and refinish hardwood stairs and replace carpet with hardwood throughout the house. If your floor needs attention, tell us what you are seeing and request a free estimate; we will come out, take readings and put what we find in writing.
